4 years of that Waku-Doki spirit has gone by in a blur, and now that it’s the 5th season of Toyota Motor Philippines’ grassroots motorsport development program Vios Cup, the stage has been set once more for some exciting, wheel-to-wheel racing on board speed-modified, track-readied Vios compact sedans. The ultimate aim, of course, would be to drag the racing off public streets and onto the relative safety of professionally monitored circuits, spot and develop budding speed demons, and maybe, just maybe, the next Pinoy international racetrack star would emerge, “racing from the ashes” of an otherwise dormant local motorsport landscape. The glamorous sidelight to the Vios Cup is, undoubtedly, the Celebrity Class, and for 2018, these famous faces will wear helmets, burn rubber, and jostle for position like the rest of the contenders in the Promotional, Sporting, and Super Sporting Classes. Shown here with TMP President Satoru Suzuki (left) are Gretchen Ho, Troy Montero and wife Aubrey Miles, Fabio Ide, Chie Filomeno, and Diego Loyzaga. Catch them and the rest of the 50 racing hopefuls on April 27 and 28 at the Clark International Speedway (round 1), July 28 and 29 at Filinvest Corporate City in Alabang, Muntinlupa City (round 2), and September 21 and 22 back in Clark for the final round. Admission is free.
